Where to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World

A lot of the WLO community wants to know where to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World. Just this week I received this email from Laura and Ryan, who are subscribed to my email newsletter:

“Hi James.

We are heading to Orlando in July for our summer holidays and we are very excited! We obviously want to meet a few of the characters, but in particular we want to see Mickey Mouse. Where is the best place to meet him at Disney World? Thanks!

Laura and Ryan”

Meeting Mickey Mouse at Disney World should definitely be on your to-do list for your vacation, but there are some locations that are worth it and some that should be skipped.

So without further ado, here are…

The Best Places to Meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World

There are three main categories of seeing Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World. They are: Character Meet and Greets, Character Dining and Street Entertainment (parades and shows). I will explain them all, give details about each opportunity and then tell you my five best experiences.

Character Meet and Greets with Mickey Mouse

Location: Character Spot at Epcot is a great location to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World! Mickey will be dressed in his classic costume. Don’t let that long wait time (it’s shorter during the late afternoon) fool you, as you will actually get to meet a few more characters one after the other! Character Spot is located in Future World West (on the way to Soarin’ Around the World from the “big golf ball” known as Spaceship Earth) and is located inside the breezeway. Characters that have been known to be here on an irregular basis are Baymax (Big Hero 6) and Joy & Sadness (Inside Out). Be sure to confirm times and characters at Disney’s Daily Calendar here.

Location: Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is another location where you can meet Mickey. He will be joined by Minnie and dressed in his Sorcerer Mickey outfit (as seen in Fantasia). This Meet and Greet is located near Commissary Lane, to the left of the entrance to The Great Movie Ride.

Location: Adventurers Outpost at Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers a great chance to meet Mickey at Disney World. He will be dressed in his Safari Mickey outfit and is usually joined by Minnie. Before Disney began construction for Pandora – The World of Avatar, you could meet Mickey at Camp Minnie-Mickey. However, he has now moved to his new location on Discovery Island (close to the Tree of Life). I especially like this location because you will get to meet both Mickey and Minnie together. It offers for a great photo opportunity!

Location: Town Square Theater at the top of Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom is by far one of my favorite places to meet Mickey at Disney World! Why? Because he actually talks! He interacts with guests! He performs card tricks! He brings magical moments every single time I visit! He also has a pretty new costume, Magician Mickey, that not many people have seen before. I honestly couldn’t recommend this Meet and Greet any higher! Do not miss!

Character Dining with Mickey Mouse

Location: Mickey’s Backyard BBQ at Fort Wilderness Campsites. This limited, dinner only, dining experience is an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet, and includes live entertainment. Mickey will be in his Country & Western outfit and you will also get to meet Chip ‘n’ Dale, Minnie and Goofy. The cost of Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is $57.00 for adults and $33.00 for children.

Location: Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort. I’ve eaten here more than once and, although it doesn’t offer the best character greeting, it does offer the best food! Mickey will be dressed in his Chef Mickey outfit and you will also get to meet Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto and, occasionally, Chip ‘n’ Dale. The cost of Chef Mickey’s is $40.00 per adult and $21.00 per child for breakfast, $38.00 per adult and $20.00 per child for brunch, and $50.00 per adult and $27.00 per child for dinner.

Location: Garden Grill in The Land pavilion at Epcot. I especially like this location because you usually get early admittance into the park before it officially opens. You will have to make a reservation ahead of time to be able to get into the park earlier though. Once you are done eating, you can head to your favorite attraction and get in line before everyone else comes in. Sometimes they open the park earlier, so be sure to check the times guide for that specific day. Mickey will be dressed in his Farmer Mickey outfit and will be joined by Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale. The cost for Garden Grill is $30.00 per adult and $18.00 per child for breakfast, $35.00 per adult and $20.00 per child for lunch, and $40.00 per adult and $20.00 per child for dinner.

Location: ‘Ohana at the Polynesian Resort. Mickey will only appear during the breakfast service. Besides having some excellent food, this location is also great for meeting the characters. There are lots of fun activities to enjoy at this experience, including games, hula competitions and coconut rolling races. Mickey will be dressed in his Hawaiian Mickey outfit and will be joined by Pluto, Lilo and Stitch. The price of this breakfast dining experience at ‘Ohana is $30.00 per adults and $18.00 per child.

Location: Minnie’s Seasonal Hollywood and Vine at Echo Lake inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The bonus of this location is that you get to see Mickey in costumes that he doesn’t normally appear in, because they change seasonally. During the winter he will be dressed for the holiday season, during the summer he will be dressed in his Beach Mickey outfit and during the fall he will be dressed for Halloween. The price for Minnie’s Seasonal Hollywood and Vine is $47.00 for adults and $28.00 for children.

Location: Tusker House in Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This spot is by the Harambe Village and offers one of my favorite lunch dishes: Peri-Peri Salmon. Mickey will be dressed in his Safari Mickey outfit and will be joined by Daisy, Donald and Goofy. The price for Tusker House is $31.00 per adult and $19.00 per child for breakfast, $35.00 per adult and $20.00 per child for lunch, and $35.00 per adult and $20.00 per child for dinner.

Other places to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World

There are numerous parades and shows around Disney World where you can meet Mickey Mouse. Unfortunately, none of these offer a one-on-one experience, but you are still able to snap many photos of him.

Fantasmic! nighttime show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Mickey will be dressed in many different outfits including: Sorcerer Mickey, Brave Little Tailor and Steamboat Willie.

Festival of Fantasy Parade during the afternoon at Magic Kingdom. Mickey will be dressed in his Band Leader Mickey outfit.

Move it! Shake it! Dance & Play it! Street Party during the afternoon at Magic Kingdom. Mickey will be dressed in his party outfit.

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire show, held during the afternoon at Magic Kingdom. Mickey will be dressed in his Jester Mickey outfit.

Disney Jr. Live on Stage
show located in the Animation Courtyard (near Star Wars Launch Bay). Showtimes vary and Mickey may not appear on certain days. As always, check your daily times guide. Mickey will be dressed in his classic outfit.

Special Events

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party offers some great options for seeing Mickey Mouse at Disney World. One of them is in the amazing Boo-to-You Halloween Parade. There are also meet and greet opportunities, but be sure to check your guide map as they change from time to time.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is another event that offers some great options for seeing Mickey Mouse at Disney World. He will have a meet and greet opportunity and, as with the halloween event, he moves around from year to year, so be sure to check your guide map for his current location. He will also appear during Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.
